RE-EVOLUCIÓN

RE: Take your own hands. Break and hold the fragments, let your fingers feel the cracks, the failures, the creases that have been erased. Build yourself into existence.

Mexican, Queer, and Pre-Hispanic History and the identities formed from these histories have been written by colonizers, religious organizations, and bias-poisoned academia… carrying out a process of erasure and an illusion of lack.

Nevertheless, Mexican artists in the immediate post-Revolución period era built a national identity out of scraps.

Nevertheless, Queer artists have and are still finding our collective legacies and realities through the scraps.

RE-EVOLUCIÓN is built on these scraps. Connecting the epic with the intimate, digging through the past in hopes of finding answers… or oneself… or questions with even more roots to pull.

Through vulnerability, power, pain, and tenacity, RE-EVOLUCIÓN examines national symbols and identifiers of Mexicaneidad, tearing apart the layers, the politics and the agendas behind messages that have raised an entire nation for more than 100 years. To understand national identity through a queer method and perspective. Use what was almost imposed by you by others, pulverize it, and reconstruct yourself from the ashes.
